Audemars Piguet Huitieme Chronograph Ref. 25644PT in Platinum and with black Dial and possibly unique AP Platinum Bracelet

Introduced in 1986, the Audemars Piguet Huitième Chronograph Reference 25644 holds a distinction that few watches can claim: it was the first automatic chronograph ever offered by Audemars Piguet. Powered by the in-house Caliber 2126, a movement developed entirely within Le Brassus, the Huitième represented a turning point in AP's watchmaking philosophy, demonstrating that the manufacture could master the chronograph complication without relying on an external ébauche. This example, in 950 platinum with a black dial and what appears to be a unique full platinum bracelet, is the most exceptional configuration in which the reference has ever been documented.

Collector's Note

The Huitième in platinum is already the rarest metal variant of the 25644: among the configurations documented by specialists and auction houses, platinum examples are a small fraction of total production, which was itself limited across all materials. The platinum bracelet on this example takes that rarity to a different level entirely. To date, no other platinum Huitième on a full platinum bracelet has appeared on the market or in any published reference. The bracelet appears to be an original AP piece, consistent in finishing and construction with the case, suggesting it was either a special order or a configuration produced in an extremely small number that has simply never surfaced until now.

The black dial adds a further dimension of desirability. The original black lacquer has developed a rich, uneven patina over decades, a natural transformation that cannot be replicated and that confirms the dial has never been restored or refinished. On a watch of this rarity, the combination of an untouched black dial and a potentially unique platinum bracelet creates a piece that is, in the most precise sense of the word, singular.
